What is Strombolian activity?
Strombolian activity is characterized by intermittent explosions generated by the ascent of gas within the volcanic conduit. It is a phenomenon typical of Etna and, while it can evolve into more intense activity, it often manifests in a spectacular but contained and safe from a distance form.
Where can it be observed safely?
The phenomenon is safely observable from both the North and South slopes of Etna, particularly from panoramic viewpoints or authorized trails, always accompanied by volcanological guides. Visibility is excellent at this time, thanks also to favorable meteorological conditions.
