Discovering the Barbagallo Craters – 2002/03 Eruption
Experience an unforgettable adventure on Etna, the highest active volcano in Europe. Our tour of the Barbagallo Craters, on the southern slope, is the ideal opportunity for those who want to experience an active volcano for the first time, immersing themselves in an extraordinary and energy-rich landscape.
The meeting point is at Piazzale del Rifugio Sapienza, at the “La Terrazza dell’Etna” Bar. From here, aboard the cable car, we will reach an altitude of 2,500 meters, where our ascent towards 3,000 meters will begin.
The route crosses the crater of the 2001 eruption and an evocative lava flow channel, until reaching the Barbagallo Craters, protagonists of the famous “perfect eruption” of 2002/03.
From the summit you can admire a breathtaking panorama embracing the Summit Craters, Valle del Bove and the eastern coast of Sicily, for an experience that combines nature, adventure and wonder.
The excursion requires good physical condition, appropriate clothing and the presence of an expert guide to accompany participants along the route.
